How Will Google's Rumored Music Service Work? (UPDATED) [Google]
Gizmodo —
Earlier this year, Google launched an iTunes-style music download service in China. The twist? All the music was free. Now, Techcrunch says a US launch of a Google music service is imminent. Could it be free, too? Doubtful. Google's already got a decent music search engine in place, and they've got plenty of experience designing iTunes-like client apps like Picasa, but let's not get ahead of ourselves—we don't even know what this thing is, how it'll be supported, what kind of content it'll have, or how much it'll cost. Consider ...

Google said to be launcing Google Audio soon
Boy Genius Report —
From Gmail to YouTube and from Voice to Maps, it seems there is hardly a service that Google isn’t in the business of providing. So we hope you can understand our somewhat lack of shock when we learned of the rumor that Google is on the cusp of releasing its own music service to be known as Google Audio. At the moment very little is know, but the big question seems to be focused on whether or not Google Audio — if it is indeed real — will provide streaming or downloadable music as it currently offers in China. Can we get an Amen for both? ...

Google Music Service Rumored
I4U News —
... Google is rumored to soon launch a music service according to a report on TechCrunch . It could be named Google Audio, but this name is not very sexy in my mind. It is not known yet if the Google music service would be streaming like Spotify or a download service like iTunes. Clearly there is an opportunity for Google to sell music alone for their Android platform would be good. Microsoft sells Music and so does Apple. Google just does the obvious next step. How about calling it YouRadio or ChromeTunes? Posted on Wed, 21 Oct 2009 09:01:29 CDT | by Luigi Lugmayr ...
Google May Start Music Service
EverythingiCafe —
... A number of sources have told TechCrunch that Google will soon be starting a music service. At this point, information is incredibly scarce. If the sources are to be believed, Google has been romancing major labels to get music for the launch. One source gave the name of this new service as “Google Audio” which would fit with Google’s barebones naming policy. Right now, nobody knows if this service will be streaming, download, free or paid. We’re hoping for high-quality, low cost, legal, DRM free, MP3s. We’ll be sure to report more as it develops. ...

What could a Google Music service do to iTunes?
Gadgetell —
... driving, you might be as impressed with the idea as I am. Having all that music at your finger tips is powerful and dare I say, fun.
Integrating this concept into Android or into browsers opens up the advertising opportunities and Google is an advertisement serving company. My money is on Google getting into the streaming game though it will be interesting to see if they can make it simpler than Pandora, whose UI couldn’t be more streamlined.
