More Apple rumors: 3G Macbook Air and a cheaper Air model

If confirmed, this move could be Apple’s first attempt to give a powerful netbook although at a hefty price. Other feature updates rumored are SSD in a standard configuration and an optional GPS.

Our take? Apple's got to get away from the idea of a "high-end netbook." It's a strong, growing market, and the Air made a name for itself early on. The spare Air probably won't be able to recapture that initial momentum unless Apple finds a way to cut that sticker price in half.

Apple are tipped to be preparing a new, cheaper MacBook Air range, complete with integrated 3G. The rumor, currently uncorroborated, suggests that the new ultraportables would be priced between $1,300 and $1,500, considerably less than the $1,799 the MacBook Air presently starts at.
