Kevin Rose's Apple crystal ball has been wrong more often than not (he was sorta right about $199 iPhone), but this time he's seen pictures ("and it looks pretty cool")! He says that not only will the new iPod nano be tall and skinny and giant-screened like we've heard, he says it'll be rounded (like iPhone 3G's ass-side, but all the way around), and even provides a handy rendering. That's right: Apple will take a hit on its most successful line in order to sell less iPhones. IPhones which generate an estimated $500 plus each for the company after carrier subsidies are counted.

... and more expansive: the rebranding of the stock iPod as the "Classic" in an of itself implied an imminent product death. If the Classic isn't killed off this year, it will be next year.
Rose also mentions the imminent release of iTunes 8.0, including "substantial new features." Let's hope one of those features is being able to tell iTunes to store videos on a different drive than the music... my biggest iTunes pet peeve.
All will be revealed in 2 to 3 weeks!

September's Apple Events have, for the last few years, been all about the iPod, with some iTunes announcements thrown in. A new Nano isn't enough to hire a bigger venue and encourage the press to fill it up. And a few new widescreen iPods certainly isn't a major "product transition". The evidence here all points to a brand new iTunes.
