Nintendo to release Wi-Fi Network Adapter for Wii (which has built-in Wi-Fi)
CrunchGear —
... Wii works with Wi-Fi right out of the box, unless you consider going into settings and configuring your Wii to use your local network not right out of the box. This adapter attempts to solve that problem.
It can work as a stand-alone router or as a network bridge, sitting between your router and Wii. We lack the specific stats, though, like if it works with 802.11n or anything.
It’s scheduled to come out in Japan on September 18 for around $53.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Network Adapter, No, Not That Kind of Adapter [Nintendo]
Gizmodo —
... company has just announced their Wi-Fi Network Adapter for the Wii and DS. I know what you're thinking: The DS and Wii already have Wi-Fi. This unit is actually a Wi-Fi router/bridge for those who don't already have wireless networks in the first place. Available in Japan on September 18th for $53, it looks a horrible Wii knockoff that you'd buy from a shady store in Akihabara. Kudos to Nintendo for making the process easier for Nentendo Wiii producers everywhere. [Famitsu via Kotaku]

... Auto. It is support for Nintendo Wii and DS as well as PCs and other devices. Nintendo will start to sell the adapter from September 18th in Japan for ¥5,800 (or around $53).
“Router” is self-explanatory, while “Bridge” connects to another router and then communicates with the Nintendo DS and Wii. “Auto” apparently can automatically switch the household’s network over automatically.

... to Nintendo consoles although it can be used with other products like PC, Cellphone etc. The Nintendo WiFi Network Adaptor has a switch for three modes on the back: "Router", "Bridge" and "Auto". "Router" is self-explanatory, while "Bridge" connects to another router and then communicates with the Nintendo DS and Wii. "Auto" apparently can automatically switch the household's network over automatically. The router will be available in Japan from September 18 for 5800 Yen ($ 55). [ Kotaku ]
Nintendo Announces Wi-Fi Router: Gamers Ask Why?
Wired: Gadget Lab —
... credibility to this notion -- you can select either Router, Bridge or Auto.
These same perplexed gamers are wondering why the big N's R&D time has gone into this, rather than a hard drive for the Wii. A strange choice, to be sure, but not unprecedented. Apple has been selling Airport routers for years, and they are pretty much guaranteed to work with a Mac out of the box. For home gamers seeking an easy solution, Nintendo's ¥5,800 (US$53) box might be just the thing.

Nintendo's WiFi router is tiny and a tad inexplicable
Boing Boing Gadgets —
... Nintendo already makes such a device: the Nintendo DS WiFi USB Connector. So perhaps this really is aimed at the Nintendo die-hard with an aesthetic soft spot for a tiny Liliputian doppelganger sitting side by side with his Wii, controlling the pulse and flux of his outgoing data. And that person, perhaps, will rather drop his $59 on Nintendo WiFi device than a Linksys or Netgear. Whoever you are, I don't understand you, dear Nintendork, but your race shall swarm the earth.
