GODLIKE GENIUS: CD-Rs that look like floppies
Tech Digest —
... posters, before Christmas we had floppy disk gift tags, today we've got floppy disk CD-Rs. Evidently the humble 3.5" floppy, subject of much mockery in the school playground, is now the coolest kid on the block. Sure, they only hold 200MB of data (though that's 13789% more than the originals) and they're a little on the expensive side - at $10 (£7) a CD, but you can't put a price on retro-cool, right? Right? What do you mean "28p and a blackjack"? Designboom (via Technabob) Related posts: Floppy Disk Gift Tags - for the special geek in your ...

They're those obnoxious mini-CDs, though, so they only hold 200MB... which is, at least, 138.89 times more data than a real floppy can hold. As mini-CDs, make sure not to cram these into your SuperDrive. 4 will cost you $28, which is just outrageous unless you're looking for a novel way to distribute your chiptunes.

Floppy Disk is Actually Stealth CD-R
The Gadgets Weblog —
... run scan disk in Microsoft Windows 95 to try to recover the corrupted data on a floppy disk I carried around unprotected in my backpack. Boy, those were the days. At $10 a pop, the Floppy Disk CD-R is hardly a good deal, but they are retro and will start a conversation. I have ordered a four pack just so I can make a lame joke here and there. I plan on carrying it around unprotected in my back pack so it can get all scratched up and corrupt my data. Technology has come so far. via technabob .

... It's about as extinct as dinosaurs, but it appears that it might be making a comeback in a way. These CD-R discs are square and looks exactly like the floppies, but they will run in a standard CD or DVD drive. I find them pretty pointless as they hold only 200MB of data. However, they do make you feel quite nostalgic. A single one of these babies costs $10 and a pack of four is available for $28 at designboom shop. I think I'll just go with a USB drive.
