Pandora2 The Pandora handheld computer is being marketed as the ultimate open source portable computer. It runs Linux ( natch) has super powerful graphics capabilities, features a 10 hour battery life, twin SD slots, full game controls and is around the size of a Nintendo DS. ... The computer itself will be the Pandora, for the simple reason that I was buying it anyway :) . I could certainly buy a simpler system with no internal screen, but using the Pandora has the nice benefit that there will be a user community for it, and if I feel like playing a game I'll have the game controls available. Hopefully I can turn off the internal screen in software to massively boost the battery life ... I imagine this must be possible since it should be usable as an MP3 player. The Pandora won't be shipping 'til mid-January at least. ...

OpenPandora finally demoed

... OpenPandora is a peice of kit I have been tracking for a while. It takes the form of a seriously mini laptop, running a linux variation on a speedy little ARM processor, while allowing completely free, open development. The result is going to be a system filled to the brim with awesome homebrew emulators and the like. It's the virtual successor to the much heralded GP32 and GP2X. The video is available over at engadget , and you can check out more details of the handheld here .
pandora open source handheld design gets updated

... Yeah, it’s all a bit clunky at this stage, but if you’re into game emulation and the homebrew scene, the Pandora is definitely one to watch. All signs point to a first half of 2009 release for the Pandora, but given some false starts back at the end of 2008, there isn’t an official launch date yet. More details can be found on the Pandora website. ...

... link to the stuff we do on these sites even though they really like us to do so. In this case, I actually just discovered Niero's post when it had a hundred-some-odd comments and thought, What has that crafty bastard done now? Couple that with my unfortunate recent inkling to play WoW again, and it's enough to make me think that I could live without a proper keyboard if it were this were my little dedicated gaming machine. (I wonder how WoW would run on an Open Pandora?) ...
