Pandora hit with soaring royalty fees; Is shutting down their only option?
Gadgetell —
Section: News, Web, Web 2.0, Online Music/Video Pandora, the ad-supported internet radio service that builds stations off of your personal taste, may be shutting down in the near future. Pandora over EDGE on the run: better than expected
jkOnTheRun —
... James mentioned Pandora yesterday and it led me to try a little experiment on a late afternoon 5k run yesterday. I use Pandora all about the house over WiFi: it's a common sight & sound in our home as I use the app on my iPhone to pipe tunes through the home entertainment system. Yet, I've never used Pandora for any length of time over EDGE, so I tried it yesterday during my run. I realize that everyone's EDGE coverage area is unique and different, so what works for some won't work for others. Still, I was pretty impressed. ...

On Friday, things reached a climax as the House of Representatives was nearing a vote on bill H.R. 7084, the Webcaster Settlement Act, which would allow Internet radio stations to negotiate with the music industry for a royalty rate lower than Congress’ mandated rates. While it appeared things were moving forward, at the last minute the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) began pressuring Congress to kill the bill. As such, Pandora ...
