... or PSP2 but the crux is that news (rather rumors) about the updated PSP are continuing to gain momentum. According to an Acclaim dev, David Perry, PSP2 will do away with Sony’s proprietary UMD drive. Going by his credentials, his info could be right but we are not partying until Sony says it.

Of course, this could just be a load of poppy cock, but we can never be too sure. If it’s true that Sony ditched UMD on the next gen PSP then the question is whether or not it will be backwards compatible. We probably won’t know until E3 in June.

... from developer David Perry’s message on Facebook and Twitter, Sony could finally have the PSP 2 sans the high battery-consuming UMD disc drive made available by this fall. Wonder if the new gaming device would be backward compatible i.e. allowing input from the older version, or would it require downloads through the PlayStation Network store, but the introduction of Flash memory storage instead of the optical drive sure seems a logical pick for a PSP of the next gen.
