Sharp smashes together VHS and Blu-Ray in one $1,100 player

... their permed conquests to the next generation of medium.
So there's surely a market for this. It might even be a practical, commonplace one.The BD-HDV22 also allows recording of television programs to a 250GB hard drive and full support for BD-R/RE, DVD-R/RW and DVD-R DL. In short, it's a fine all-around system that can handle anything you throw at it, short of Laser Disc. But you'll pay for all those formats: it's due to be released on October 20 for $1,100.

You know, just in case you want to convert your collection of movies taped off HBO from the early 90s you have in a box in your basement to Blu-ray. How much will this monstrosity cost you, what with its decades-spanning techs brutally crammed together? $1,100, due to be released on October 20th. I'll take two! [CrunchGear via ...
Sharp announces the mix-matched Blu-ray/VHS combo player
Gadgetell —
... are still around in many homes, but I cannot imagine why anyone would want to buy a VHS/Blu-ray combo player. You would think that if you were moving up to Blu-ray quality then any VHS tape would look very poor and almost seem unwatchable at this point.
Anyway (and also possibly thankfully) Sharp is planning to release the Aquos BD-HDV22 only in Japan. It is expected to go on sale November 25 and will retail for a not so cheap $1,500.
