It's official- Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 on Sept. 30
jkOnTheRun —
... committed for the Sept. 30th launch with a bunch of other countries on tap for the "fourth quarter of 2008". North America and other locations will be getting the XPERIA too but SE is not saying exactly when, which speaks of next year. The XPERIA was recently reported to be having trouble getting out of the chute due to problems with working with Windows Mobile so it sounds like those have been resolved. At least in Sweden, Germany and the UK.

This is our first step in changing all that. We’ve been inspired by some of the great initiatives by other companies, but this is very much our own idea and we hope we’ve learnt from what others have done.

IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis —
... nothing to sneeze at (3.2 megapixel camera, quad-band EDGE plus 3G, aGPS, Wi-Fi, 800 X 480 3-inch touchscreen), the real goodies lie in the new Panel UI that can totally reconfigure how you interact with your phone with the press of a button. It presents a lot of opportunity to developers, as well as setting the bar for interface customization. This thing has been a long time coming, and no doubt plenty of fans will be happy to get their mitts on the final product.
