Magnus Andersson, product manager for the X1, says: “The brand is not tied into any specific technical platform.” And when asked about how much pressure the Xperia was under, he added: “I think there is a lot of hope riding on everything Sony Ericsson does.” When the Xperia X1 begins shipping later this month it will be Sony Ericsson’s first Windows Mobile powered smartphone, and is seen as boosting Microsoft’s presence within the smartphone area.
