Sony Exmor 12.25-megapixel CMOS for cellphones coming in March
SlashGear —
... in November this year, though it’s unclear which, if any, manufacturers have signed up to use it in their mobile devices.
Sony have also announced two new lens assemblies, both with autofocus using a super-compact piezo driver. The 12.25-megapixel IU060F has a 28mm focal length equivalence, while the 8.11-megapixel IU046F has 35mm; both have F2.8 F-measure. They’ll be available in September and February 2009, respectively.

Sony announces new CMOS sensors, 12+ megapixel cameraphones coming soon
Engadget —
... the mobile phone megapixel race. Samsung's 10 megapixel SCH-B600 currently holds the lead, but Sony's got a ringer chomping at the bit with the Exmor IMX060PQ CMOS sensor, which, paired with its matching auto-focus lens module, will turn some lucky handset into a 12.25 megapixel shooter when it enters the race in March. Sony has also announced 5.15 and 8.11 megapixel sensors, but really, anything not in double digits is so last year. Sony unveils 12+ megapixel Exmor CMOS image sensor - Cameraphone pixel-war heating up!
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis —
... new image sensors boasts pixel densities of 5.15, 8.11 and 12.25 megapixels. The range-topping Exmor IMX060PQ unit brings with it more than 12 million pixels into a 1/2.5 type CMOS image sensor.
Look for handsets with 12 megapixel cameras hitting the market sometime in the middle of next year - especially those from Sony Ericsson. In fact, Sony Ericsson’s prediction that cameraphones will hit 12-20 megapixels by 2012 is starting to make more sense.

Sony’s High Quality Camera For Cellphones
GEARFUSE —
... . It’s managed to shrink the size of the sensor down so much, that a 12.25-megapixel, 28mm equivalent CMOS camera can now fit within a cellphone. On top of image quality and detail comparable to most point and shoot cameras, this newly developed lens will also be capable of shooting 1080p video at up to 27 frames per second. With video quality that superb, you’ll certainly need to upgrade that beat up Sandisk SD card of yours if you want to hold any video of decent length. Link [ via ]
