Speaker Shelves and Storage Units Provide More Than Just Surround Sound [Speakers]
Gizmodo —
... but this Soundshelf design is easily the most elegant application of the idea to date. In fact, Soundshelf goes beyond bookshelves into other areas—like DVD storage towers. Again, its still a concept, but there is no reason why it can't become a reality. In the meantime, we have ceiling fans with built-in speakers to look forward to. Maybe someday we could even achieve the holy grail of simple surround sound solutions—the speaker light bulb. [Designboom via GearCrave via Freshome]

Soundshelf holds your books, blasts your music

... Witek Stefaniak and Anielka Zdanowicz took it more literally. Their Soundshelf concept is speakers that can also be used to store books, CDs and videos. Clever way to keep your media handy.
The Soundshelf is just a concept at this point, and judging by the photos, it probably won't sound great. However, if someone got creative and adapted some of the current soundbar designs, a decent-sounding version could be created.

Cool design concept – soundshelf integrates speakers with shelves
Krunker —
Now here’s a novel concept. Instead of having traditional bookshelf speakers that sit on top of bookshelves.. why not build the speakers into the shelving units directly? That’s the idea behind these design concepts by Polish designers Witek Stefaniak and Anielka Zdanowicz over at designboom.com. Now of course.. if you’re blaring music, you might want to reconsider placing anything valuable or fragile on top of these shelves.. but hey, it’s still a great space saving idea!

soundshelf design concept: not for libraries

Polish designers Witek Stefaniak and Anielka Zdanowicz observed that conventional speakers rarely fit in with our living spaces because of their appearance, so they end up being “put away in the corner of the room or hidden in the wall”. I’ve made the same observation. Anyone blessed with eyesight has made the same observation. If you met a Cro-Magnon man and invited him into your house he will undoubtedly make the same observation. But since Witek and Anielka are also blessed with designing skills and cool last names like “Zdanowicz”, they were able to come up with sexy yet practical shapes and structures for speakers. ...

... is by Witek Stefeniak and Anielka Zdanowicz of Poland:
Why the traditional speaker has to be put away in the corner of the room or hidden in the wall? Speaker could be displaied, and the aditional function could be imparted. The object becomes the item of furniture by a simple arrengement of dvd and books. Two suggestion of shape give the possibility to arrange the interior in the modern style and to achieve a good quality of home video amplification.

Soundshelf: Platzsparendes Lautsprecher-Regal
Ausgefallene Gadgets & Geschenkideen —
Was fehlt? Die Strom- und Lautsprecher- kabel. Auf dem ...
