iPhone 3GS exploit found, ultrasn0w coming soon
Tech Ticker —
Good news for iPhone 3GS users waiting for the unlock. The iPhone Dev team has found the 24Kpwn exploit in the bootrom of 3GS which could allow them to jailbreak and possibly unlock the device.
Keep your fingers crossed because you may get it sooner than expected since the exploit is similar to what is found in iPod Touch 2G (can be jailbroken).

iPhone 3GS exploit confirmed, jailbreak and unlock coming 'soon'
Engadget —
... On a personal note, I'm sad. Apple, it took me a week to break through your new defenses. And to let us reuse an exploit like that; 24kpwn was so 5 months ago. Although I imagine it must have been painful watching the devices roll by on the assembly line, knowing they all had a hole in them and you couldn't fix it. Perhaps the cat has given up chase on the mouse. [Via QuickPWN and Dev-Team Blog] Filed under: Cellphones iPhone 3GS exploit confirmed, jailbreak and unlock coming 'soon' originally appeared on ...

Ultrasn0w to get iPhone 3GS unlock thanks to old hack
iPhone Buzz —
Thanks to an unaddressed security flaw, the iPhone Dev Team have announced that they will soon update their ultrasn0w unlocking tool to work on the iPhone 3GS. The exploit, known as 24Kpwn, was first discovered in the iPod touch 2G, and used in the redsn0w tool to jailbreak that PMP.
Now, the Dev Team can use the same sort of technique as used in redsn0w to update ultrasn0w for Apple's latest smartphone. The team believe that the iPhone 3GS' bootrom was finalized in roughly August 2008, so the emergence of 24Kpwn earlier in 2009 ...

iPhone 3GS Jailbreak/Unlock Coming Soon, Leverages Old Exploit [IPhone]
Gizmodo —
... There are two possibilities here: either the 3GS development and manufacturing schedule is longer and more rigid than the iPod Touch 2G's (the Dev Team says its bootrom was "cut" in August of 2008, before the 24kpwn exploit was identified) or, more compellingly, Apple just doesn't really care that much about jailbreaking anymore. I'll assume the former, and quietly hope for the latter. [Dev Team—Thanks, Bhoumik and Eric!] ...

iPhone 3G S Exploited - Jailbreak Coming Soon
Gadget Venue —
... has not given up on the cat&mouse game, and in fact there are challenging aspects of the 3GS jailbreak that aren’t in the other devices. It’ll take some time to safely work these into our tools, but the fundamental weaknesses are there: The bootrom is exploitable via 24Kpwn, and the baseband is exploitable via ultrasn0w. (And just like with the 3G, ultrasn0w for 3GS requires that you not update your baseband when Apple comes out with new firmware.)

... available to be taken advantage of.“About 5 hours ago (Thursday evening, less than a week after the 3GS launch), we were able to verify that the 24Kpwn exploit that the hybrid team used on the iPod Touch 2G is still applicable to the bootrom of the iPhone 3GS. That means we can use the same sort of technique used by our current redsn0w tool to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone 3GS.” Bottom line, it looks like our wait to an iPhone 3GS jailbreak is getting shorter. ... iPhone 3G S users to download, install, and utilize the applications of their choice, outside of Apple's and AT&T's control. The utility is currently for Windows users only, though Hotz says a Mac OS X version is on the way. 3G S users need the latest edition of iTunes installed. Although this tool apparently will not go so far as to dissolve the bonds between the 3G S and the AT&T exclusive carrier (which was a key feature of Hotz' last tour de force).
