TechCrunch Tablet Update: Prototype B
TechCrunch Tablet Update: Prototype B
It’s time for an update on the progress we’ve made on the low cost touch screen tablet that I first wrote about in July 2008 when I asked for a dead simple touch screen web tablet that boots right to the browser. Here’s our first post on the tablet, which we’re now calling the CrunchPad ...

Manufacturing is changing with us
Scobleizer — ... public view with everyone’s help. I was called a massive idiot back then. It has totally shocked me that more companies haven’t taken my advice. This weekend shows that things are changing and that my advice in 2004 is now being heeded. 1. Bug Labs is working with famous design firm IDEO and is designing its UI in public eye. VC Fred Wilson reported that on his blog this weekend. 2. TechCrunch is designing a Tablet PC for less than $300. Mike Arrington gave a report on that this morning. This is huge and is only going to ...

Michael Arrington's Minimalist Web Tablet Prototyped, Fulfills (Most) Promises [Prototypes]
Gizmodo — ... $299 is more realistic and: The real question for us is whether this project has legs and should go forward towards production units, which is a very big step from a working prototype. That would require spinning the company off from the blog and building a team around Louis. It’s a decision we haven’t made yet. Yeah, I'd say "are we going to even make this thing?" is a "real question", but even for $300, I kind of hope they do. [TechCrunch] ...

TechCrunch muestra su prototipo de Tablet táctil
Gizmologia — ...

A $300 Choice: Netbook or CrunchPad?
jkOnTheRun — ... TechCrunch has more information available about their web tablet prototype, which is now known as the CrunchPad. They’ve built a working prototype and offer up two videos that show what state the project is at. Built on a VIA Nano chipset, the slate currently uses a full build of Ubuntu Linux, but eventually, the plan is to strip the OS to nothing more than a browser. What they’ve built is no doubt impressive, but it also raises a few questions. ...

Is Michael Arrington the next Steve Jobs?
Boing Boing Gadgets — No. But are you? Michael Arrington has lifted his knickers to show "Prototype B," the latest revision of the CrunchPad, a Linux-based touchscreen internet tablet that has sprung fully formed from the genitals of his technological desire. It's more cumbersome than the initial mock-up, but it's just a proof-of-concept for the hardware inside: a VIA Nano-powered processor, a mobile processor on par with the Intel Atom found inside nearly every netbook on the market; 1GB of RAM, which Arrington claims is "more ...

Update On Michael Arrington’s Internet Tablet
GEARFUSE — ... with Windows is beyond me. Mikey has lost it. This is a recession and there are better, more reliable options out there compared to some heavy-ass prototype that no one has seen or can purchase. Game over, bro. Link

CrunchPad, the $299 touchscreen tablet
SolSie.com — ... Michael Arrington and his team at TechCrunch had decided to take action on building a touchscreen tablet and call it CrunchPad, a 12-inch touchscreen running Ubuntu Linux. The tablet is powered with a Via Nano processor, 1 GB of RAM,  4 GB flash drive for the OS ban the browser cache. WiFi and even an accelerometer are on board. The OS is Ubuntu Linux with a home brew Webkit based browser The prototype came out for around $299. Take a look at the prototype in action. ...

Tech Ticker — ... inclusion of a better touchscreen panel. The prototype is neatly done but one thing to look out for will be its price, provided if it ever reaches the market. I wouldn’t want to pick this up at the same price of a netbook which offers me more functionality than the CrunchPad. “>     [Via TechCrunch] Submit to: ...

New touch tablets circling the market
Gadgetell — ... the very affordable range.  GiiNii says they will know for sure in late summer of this year when the 7” is available. I use my iPod touch for this purpose.  I am not sure if a bigger screen would motivate me to buy this with limited functionality over pocket-ability.  Which will rule the day when these are released?  My money is still on pocket-ability but I hope I am wrong because this concept intrigues me. ‘Netbook’ term removed from Google ads
CrunchGear — ... Psion is only seeking satisfaction from sites and companies “using the term ‘netbook’ in ventures for profit,” according to jkOnTheRun, so apparently writing about netbooks is fair game as long as we don’t build our own and call it a netbook. ...

A phone designed by tech journalists: sweet or meh?
CrunchGear — ... Wading through miles of devices gives tech journalists a unique outlook on what exactly everybody’s doing wrong, but it’s not always possible to take all that and turn it around into something that’s exactly right. TechCrunch is working on a simple, cheap tablet PC (with some success) because there’s nothing that fills that role right now. T3 felt the same way about mobiles, and has ...

TechCrunch Tablet makes an early debut
CrunchGear — ... Leaks are always hardest when they hit at home. Now we know how Apple feels. So as long as the cat’s out of the bag, we may as well give you a few more pics. What you see is a prototype, equipped with an Intel Atom processor and a 12″ capacitative touchscreen. Looks a little different than it did last time, doesn’t it? ...

TechCrunch’s Crunchlet Pretty Amazing
PaulTech Network — ... It’s been really fun to watch the iterations of the prototypes.  The latest rounds have included a 12 inch capacitive touchscreen, 1GB of ram, and 4 GB of flash storage.  The experience is browser driven.  And really, when you see where things are headed, this totally makes sense.  Resolution is 1024×768, with wifi, and accelerometer.  It has a four cell battery and should cost around $299.  Very cool indeed.  Here is a video of Crunchlet Protoype B, they should be putting up a video of ...
