The torch itself is constructed out of leftover steel from the “Birds Nest” while the base is carved from crystal and features a laser-printed line map that illustrates the route of the controversial torch relay. The fancy $500 trinket even comes in its own elegant Chinese-style box. Even though it just sits there and looks pretty, just like the Beijing Olympics, it’s a class act. Nice, but we just want one of those swanky hats the U.S. team wore in the opening ceremony.

... count as "bling" without a Swarovski crystal in sight? The torch does in fact have the next best thing: a crystal base, laser-engraved with the route that the real torch took around the world. It even comes with a silk lined presentation box.
Obviously I won't be buying one of these. But if I did, I would use it to light my Tibetan incense sticks in a kind of glorious mini-protest, a completely empty gesture against a subject I don't really understand.
