Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook official; WWAN option is coming

The leaked flyer was only the start of it; there’s still no official press release, but the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook is now available to order on their website. The three models - Standard, Social and XP Edition - are there, priced from $349 for the Standard and up to $449 for the Windows-based XP Edition, with an estimated ship date of September 16th.
Dell’s support site also has a new document detailing the Inspiron Mini 9’s expansion capabilities. In the image above, 1 refers to the SSD, 2 to the WWAN card, 3 to the RAM and 4 to the WiFi card.

Today, Dell quietly unveiled, via their website, the long speculated and leaked, Inspiron Mini 9’s specs, price and ship date. As previously stated, the Mini 9 with Windows, includes 1GB of DDR2 RAM, an 8GB SSD, Bluetooth 2.1, Webcam, WiFi G (no ‘n’) and an Intel Atom Processor N270 (1.6GHz/533Mhz FSB/512K cache). The display is an LED 8.9-incher powered by Intel GMA 950 video card, which combined with the solid state drive should produce some decent battery life.
Costs $449 or add $25 for ‘alpine white’. Ships September 16, 2008.

Dell says "me too!", launches the Inspiron Mini 9 netbook

After months of speculation and leaks, it's official. Dell is set to announce their netbook entry, the Inspiron Mini 9, this morning and the starting price for a version with Ubuntu 8.04 will be had for $349, although that option isn't available quite yet. Today in the U.S., Japan and selected countries in Europe, you can order a base Mini 9 with Windows XP Home for $399 and options can shoot the cost up to over $450 or more. Not exactly the $299 price tag everyone was hoping for, but not at the top end for this market either.
Let's see what you get for your $399... and yes, this will sound familiar to those following the current netbook ...

Dell’s long awaited entry into the netbook market has finally been made official, and based on the leaks it seems that it comes with little surprise, both in terms of pricing but also overall specs. The netbook has been officially dubbed the Inspiron Mini 9 and its available today with an estimated shipping date of September 16.
