... The latest addition to my feed reader is There, I Fixed It, a site collecting fantastic and hilarious examples of jury-rigging in daily life. My favorite so far is the point-of-use hot water heater shown above, but the "Franken-chair" has to take a close second. Thanks to Melody for steering me to it. ...
A Tribute to Splendid Half-Assery [Hacks]

Misadventures in do-it-yourself home repair, or lateral thinking of McGuyver-esque proportions? We've all pulled something stupid like this in our time. Hey, I once tried to fix a waterbed with duct tape, big mistake. But some deeds shouldn't go unnoticed, like this cardboard computer case, or the smelly sock fix to make RockBand drums a little quieter. There, I Fixed It takes user submissions of the most inspired fixes-and the utter brain farts-and the result is a catalogue of impending disaster ...

... the blog “There I Fixed It”, other than that you should add it to your RSS reader immediately. It’s a gallery of user submitted hacks, the twist being that these hacks are disastrous, usually dangerously so, and many of them could quite possibly end in death.
The new car lock above is just hilarious, and the AT-AT caravan ladder mash-up is simply amazing. But the bike fire engine (below) is actually pretty handy looking, for a small village at least.

thereifixedit-comp.jpg On the other side of Jane Fulton Suri's Thoughtless Acts is There I Fixed It , documenting "epic kludges and adventures in home pwnership", where a kludge is "an ill-assorted collection of poorly matching parts, forming a distressing whole." Definitely less graceful than the makeshift doorstops and paper shades in Jane's book, these "quick fixes" take a seriously direct and ingenious route from broken to repaired. Our favorite is the padlocked car-door: "Look, this is just how it's going to be from now on, okay?" Submit your own ...
