Carbon nanotube speakers are a thousandth the width of a human hair, have no bass
CrunchGear — ... they produced sound whether they were bent, moving, or even partially damaged. They’re currently manufactured up to a maximum width of 10cm, but a 4-in. wafer can be “stretched” to 60m long, providing enough speaker material to make 500 10×10cm loudspeakers. It’s all in the lab right now, of course, but this technology sounds really promising and fundamentally different. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more from them in the future. [via PhysOrg]

Gizmo Watch — ... mechanisms of the usual speakers. Watch this: Some kind of temperature fluctuations can be considered responsible for the sound the world’s thinnest loudspeakers deliver. We can see potential in this lab based tech; therefore we presume more applications to be developed based on the concept. Then seeing the technique making it to clothes, walls, windows, earplugs etc. wouldn’t come as a surprise for all of us. Via: Physorg
