Truphone enables WiFi phone calls on iPod Touch
jkOnTheRun —
We've talked about Truphone before. They offer low-cost and free voice calling over WiFi for handsets like BlackBerries, Nokia devices and Apple's iPhone. Can you believe they now offer their service on a non-phone? Yup, as of today, Truphone enables an iPod Touch to be a voice communications device with their free client application available in the iTunes App Store.
Bear in mind that two other requirements come into play here. First, you'll need a second-generation iPod Touch; the first-gen devices don't support audio input. A headset with microphone is also required since there's no built-in microphone on the iPod ...
Truphone transforma iPods touch em telefones VoIP
MacMagazine —
Truphone for iPod Touch: free VoIP Calling
Mobilewhack.com —
[image] Have an iPod touch but don’t want to spring another few hundred dollars on an iPhone? The Truphone for iPod touch may be for you. The cool application essentially turns your music player into a VoIP phone - which means free calls when using your home internet connection. And the application lets you call not only other iPod touch owners but also users of Truphone’s Internet telephony service and your Google Talk friends. (I am not a huge fan of GTalk, but that’s another story). Upcoming features include calling to landlines (at a cost, bummer), IM/call capability for Skype and MSN users and additional facilities for interacting with ...

This is it! Finally, someone has made an application that can turn the iPod touch into a decent calling device. Sort of like Skype, Truphone works similarly allowing you to attach a microphone to the device and do the following:
* Making and receiving calls to and from landlines (PSTN) at low cost (simply set yourself up with a Truphone account)
* Instant messaging to Skype and MSN (free)
* Calling to Skype users (free)
* Calling to MSN users (free)
* Check and set facilities for Twitter (free)
* Check and set facilities for Facebook (free)

Even without the landline call feature, you can still use ...
Truphone turns iPod Touch into a phone!
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis —
Truphone is out with their VoIP app that specifically targets iPod Touch users. Not that you can’t use it on your iPhone as well, the idea is to add phone functionality to the iPod Touch, which is an awesome idea.
However, you will need a microphone adaptor in order to actually talk with someone on the other side, but that’s not a big deal. Once you add microphone and install Truphone from the AppStore, you’re ready to take and make free calls to users of Truphone’s Internet telephony service, and to users of the Google Talk instant messaging service.
News doesn’t stop there. Truphone plans to upgrade its app in ...

... and iPod touch should appear in the App Store as free downloads next week. Fring Aimed at a similar consumer as Truphone, Fring for iPhone serves as a unified home for all of your contacts across multiple chat clients.
