Apple files for patent on winter-friendly iPhone gloves
AppleInsider — ... Published: 09:00 PM EST Addressing the complaints of nearly every iPhone owner in a northern climate, Apple has filed for a patent that would cover a means of using a multi-touch device with gloves. The US Patent Office application notes that capacitive touchscreens like those on the iPhone and iPod touch are problematic in colder weather. As they depend on the electrical response from a user's fingertips, which is often blocked off when wearing insulated gloves, the screens either force users to take off their gloves or else sit tight until they return indoors. Apple's ...

(...) (...) Apple iPhone touchscreen gloves patented
SlashGear — Apple have patented a special glove which would allow wearers to still use their iPhone despite keeping their hands toasty warm.  Due to the way the cellphone’s capacitive multitouch display works, relying on the electrical response of the user’s fingers in order for contact to be recognized, the original iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPod touch will not respond to presses if the user is wearing gloves too thick for that response to be transfered.  Apple’s solution is a multi-layer fabric, the inner lining of which mimics the electrical conductivity of skin. Holes in the ends of the fingertips could be opened to allow contact between this inner layer and the touchscreen itself.  They could then be closed up, with the patent describing ...

Apple Patents ‘High Tactility Glove System’… I Call it ‘iGlove’
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis — No, it’s not the Nintendo ‘Power Glove’, but it does kind of look similar in ways (needs more buttons and controls!)… But Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) has filed a patent named ‘High Tactility Glove System’ that could be used in many, many ways. Imagine using it to control your iPhone, iPod or even your iMac, Mac Mini, MacBook and so on. In particular, when you live in a cold climate like me, I’d get a kick out of being able to leave my gloves on. It is a bit of a pain to take your gloves off every time you want to answer a call or email in cold climates. Struggle to take off the glove, touch the screen, do whatcha gotta do, etc. With this new glove (I’ll call it ‘iGlove’) there would be no need ...

Apple patent reveals 'iPhone gloves' for warmer hands-on experience
Engadget — A new Apple patent has been found that will assuredly warms the hearts (and hands) of many iPhone users currently enduring a cold winter. Originally filed a day before the iPhone's June 28, 2007 launch, it details a glove with a thin, electrically conductive, "anti-sticky" inner layer that is able to function with a capacitive touchscreen. It also suggests the glove could have apertures on the fingertips for opening and closing the more protective outer ...

Apple patents ‘High tactility glove system’
D' Technology Weblog — The US Patent and Trademark Office released Apple’s most recent application titled High tactility glove system, in which the company files for patent protection for gloves which can keep users’ hands warm during cold conditions. As the application says, “When users, in cold weather, wear thick or bulky gloves … the loss of tactile feedback to the user may prevent the user from properly operating the electronic device, and may lead to frustration. Alternatively, if the user has to remove his gloves … the user’s hand may become cold and uncomfortable, which may also lead to user frustration.” Apple’s glovely solution is two-layer “system” with ...

apple gloves to warm hands, empty wallets
technabob — It can be hard to do anything while wearing gloves, much less get directions to that new sushi place with your iPhone. Sure, you could just take off your gloves every time you need to do something, wear the fingerless variety, or just lose your “texting fingers.” But as those solutions might not always be color-coordinated with your gadgets (and might lack the Apple logo), a new design for touchscreen-friendly gloves is here to save the day. iPhones and touch-based iPods rely on the electric impulses in human skin, so any iPhone-friendly gloves would either have to leave the fingertips bare or simulate the electricity in skin. This patent combines those approaches–sort of. The iPhone gloves are multi-layered, and the thin ...
