"Open source" Game Boy
MAKE Magazine —
Matt is working on an open source Game Boy...
Ok, so ever since middle school I've wanted to make one of these... but I only now have enough know-how and support to make it, ... an Open Source game boy :) Actually, it's a little smaller than a game boy, but it's 1000% cooler (in my opinion) because it uses an Arduino as the "core", and a few modules and shields that already exist.

... system is now available in kit form so you can build one for yourself. At this point, the Gamepack only runs some rudimentary homebrew demo code, but the hope is that others who grab the kit will contribute more advanced games, or maybe even a Nintendo emulator.

The kit comes with everything you need to get started and includes an Arduino processor, the 128×128 TouchShield Stealth color OLED touchscreen and an Inputshield board with a tiny rumbling joystick and control buttons. It is powered by a flat Lithium battery pack. The end result will be one of the coolest-looking handhelds you are likely to come across.

... attached to it. Blogger Matt sells these on his site, Liquidware.com, for $249.93. It comes with an Arduino, a MeCap Backpack, a TouchShield Stealth, an ExtenderShield and an InputShield. The TouchShield reads the position of the joystick, and outputs a little colored dot on the TouchShield screen. It’s essentially an open source portable gaming system. Open-source 'PSP'

Justin Huynh sent in this:
At Maker Faire a couple weeks ago, Matt and I showed off the Open Source Gameboy and OpenBerry, and in the tradition of hacking together arduino versions of cool handheld gadgets, Matt put together the Open Source PSP with two player ping-pong on it. It's got two inputshields and a touchshield slide, sitting on a triplewide extender which is all hooked up to the arduino. Here's a link to the blog and youtube.
