The cryptic countdown in New Zealand and the FCC info about the strange, elongated maybe-netbook are almost certainly for the same product, according to a Japanese teaser site. In the flash animation at the front of Sony's Japanese Vaio page an masked device that matches the leaked dimensions of the shallow, long miniature laptop can be clearly seen. Sony leaks teaser of new VAIO notebook

... but it appears the laptop is truly different. Sony recently put up a teaser flash video on its Japanese website, which shows a woman removing Vaio from her small purse. In the end, the notebook goes into a "manila envelope". Going by the video, the latest VAIO will be an extremely thin notebook sporting a form factor which might be smaller compared to traditional ultra portables. The firm plans to display its newest innovation during upcoming CES, so wait till then!

Spotted at Sony's Japanese Vaio site is this device, which resembles the computer partially revealed by the FCC. It's a pretty but indistinct image that feeds its promise to "change the way you look at laptops" next month: no screen, keyboard or other features are even clear. There's just a hint of an triangular crease, which morphs into an envelope in the teaser ad.

Sony’s Vaio teaser campaign teases more

Sony is gradually revealing bits and pieces of its “revolutionary” Vaio device. This time it comes from Vaio’s Japanese site showing a woman removing a small device from her purse.
Nothing is clear yet but the rectangular shape of the device points out at a netbook in the offing.
Let’s hope another Vaio microsite spills out a few more details on this in the coming days.
