WiFi Detecting Ball Point Pen

And you thought pocket protectors were geeky. In fact, the WiFi Detecting Ball Point is the perfect compliment to any gadget geeks lust for gear. Hit a button and the pen’s LED will light up if there is a WiFi hotspot in proximity. The greater the signal strength the more LED lights displayed; up to 4. Works with WiFi b/g only and won’t indicate if the network is locked, but it’s only $14.

... ludicrous. There really is no good reason why anyone would need Wi-Fi detecting shoes or a Wi-Fi detecting T-shirt. On the other hand, a a Wi-Fi detecting pen works.
The USB Fever model shows B and G signal strength at nearby hotspots when a button is pushed and as a pen it is not something that is going to make you look like an enormous douche (like the guy in the shirt and the shoes).
Price: $13.95 [USB Fever via Gear Diary, Oh Gizmo]

Powered by 2 cell batteries, this pen is capable of detecting B/G networks but it will not indicate if the network is password protected or not. However, priced at less then $14, you can expect a high degree of sophistication with this gadget.

... to this, as it only detects B/G networks. It also does not detect whether or not the network is up and running, nor if a code-key is required. It also requires 2 cell batteries, which are actually included. So, yeah, you could detect a network and think: “All right”! You may find that it won’t work when you actually try it.
If you definitely want this thing, then you should be able to get it at the USBFever site for about $13.99.

There is a limitation to this, as it only detects B/G networks. It also does not detect whether or not the network is up and running, nor if a code-key is required. So don’t get too excited about finding that access point on the Wi-Fi detecting pen until you can get it to actually work.
