Shocker: iPhone 3G Sometimes Faster, Stronger, Better in Ad Than In Real Life [It's All An Illusion]
Gizmodo —
Hey, did you know that advertising misleads you? Like, products might not perform as exceptionally, look as hot or taste as yummy as they do in slickly produced ads? The iPhone 3G not cruising the internets as briskly as Apple's ads depict might be a big bucket of "duh," but this comparison video shows just how stark the contrast is—while Apple never promises your real world experience will be the same. Like, it would trick my mom, and that's not cool. Although your mileage may vary depending on network congestion and area. And in our review, we did find the 3G to be just as fast as advertised, as did many others. ...

iPhone 3G Video: life versus advertising
Ubergizmo —
Hopefully no iPhone customer will be surprised that, in the real world, the iPhone isn't nearly as fast as when it is shown on TV. Interestingly, the TV ad is all about how 3G is twice as fast (than 2.5G) and while Apple doesn't claim that the ad is accurate, it is certainly giving a rosy tint to the whole experience. Anyhow, I think that they have the perfect excuse: time dilation is necessary because ad slots are only 30 seconds long - or about what it takes to load two web pages (if you don’t have any reception issues)

Apple iPhone 3G is Twice as Fast? Think Twice.
LiewCF.com —
We watched the Apple 3G iPhone commercial. It is so cool! It is so fast! But, does iPhone 3G “really” that fast? rrrrrrrroooooooo did a test of iPhone 3G speed in real life and compare with the Apple iPhone 3G ads video.
Apparently, iPhone 3G in test is much slower than the advertised speed. Well, we know it is “commercial” but the speed differents too much in real life (although it is considered fast on mobile phone). Do you feel cheated?
The video made me re-think to keep Apple iPhone 3G in my wish list or not, well, for 3 seconds. I’ll still get an iPhone 3G if it is available and ...

Video: iPhone 3G in Reality Versus Advertisement
Wired: Gadget Lab —
It's plainly obvious all commercials exaggerate the greatness of their devices. And a YouTube user has produced a rather amusing (and well done, I must say) video to demonstrate that Apple's iPhone 3G commercial is no exception.
The timing of this video coincides with a growing list of iPhone 3G-network complaints -- large enough that users had to start a new thread after the first one grew too massive. Check it out below.

¿Apple hace publicidad engañosa con el iPhone?

Excelente demostración, en un video en YouTube, de cómo varían “levemente” las prestaciones del iPhone de la publicidad de Apple y las del iPhone 3G en la “vida real”:

iPhone 3G: Advertising vs. Reality
Core77 —
We still love the iPhone, but it's good to see some sharp observers calling some of its advertising to task. This simple, clear video shows the ad side-by-side with the reality, plus some brief comments. And no, there is no iPhone on earth that works as quickly and smoothly as the one in those "Twice as Fast" ads, despite all the noise being made about how quick the thing is.
Conclusion: "I like Apple products, but I dislike being misled by deceptive advertising more."

iPhone 3G Ad Gets Banned in the UK for Being Too Fast [Apple]
Gizmodo —
After banning an Apple iPhone ad earlier this year, the British Advertising Standards Authority has pulled out another one that glossed over how "really really" fast the new iPhone 3G is. As the demo shows, "really fast" is not as fast as Apple shows in their ad. In fact, as any iPhone user knows, any similarities between reality and those iPhone ads is a coincidence, which is exactly why it got banned in the UK. Shouldn't these ads be banned here for being completely misleading too? [PC Pro]

Apple Joins AT&T Verizon Snark Fest - With the same disregard for accuracy...
DSLreports - front page —
After several weeks of bickering in the public eye between AT&T; and Verizon, Apple this week jumped into the debate feet first with two new ads. The ads, like AT&T;'s new ads featuring actor Luke Wilson, try to brush aside Verizon's criticisms of AT&T; 3G network coverage and performance by highlighting that AT&T; iPhone users can browse the Internet and talk on the phone at the same time. Strangely, PC World gets rather excited about the new ads, dismissing AT&T;'s recent ads as bunk, but hailing Apple for being honest and the ads as being "actually good": ...
