iTunes Remote App for Android Looks Fantastic [Android Itunes Remote]
Gizmodo —
One of our favorite apps for the iPhone is the iTunes remote, so we're thrilled to see one for Android. Jeff Sharkey says that he reverse engineered the remote protocol from the iPhone and touch and used it to create an iTunes remote for Android (a process he details here). As you can see in the video, it looks amazing and works perfectly in the Android emulator, just like Apple's, though you have to manually enter the IP address and pairing code. Since Jeff is already a $275,000 winner of the Android Dev Challenge, we're hopeful it'll work just as beautifully on a real live handset. ...
iTunes Remote App coming unofficially to Android
Boing Boing Gadgets —
Jeff Sharkey — winner of the $275k Android Developer Challenge — has already managed to ape one of the iPhone's most killer apps on the Android platform: the iTunes Remote App, which Sharkey has managed to reverse engineer. [image] As an open source advocate and developer with a serious love / hate relationship with my iPhone, I couldn't wait to get my paws on a device running Google's brand spankin' new open-source mobile phone operating system, Android and I haven't been disappointed. I've spent the last four days using an HTC G1 phone running the first release of Android, and while it is not an iPhone-killer, it is a killer device for heavy Google users (like you and me). Let's take a look at why Android does and doesn't live up to its hype. Note: Since the iPhone I use as my primary phone is my sole experience with a touchscreen smartphone ...
TunesRemote - Apple iTunes remote for Android
MAKE Magazine: hacks —
Before the G1 was released and Android was only available via emulator, Jeffrey Sharkey reverse engineered DACP and created a really slick Android iTunes remote that functions just like the Remote app on the iPhone.
The Digital Audio Control Protocol (DACP) was recently introduced by Apple, and is built into all recent iTunes™ versions. DACP is the protocol used by the Remote app on the iPhone/iPod Touch to remote control your desktop or laptop iTunes player.
DACP is similar to the well-known DAAP, using Bonjour MDNS to find libraries, then using HTTP requests with binary responses ...
