HOWTO Drink Coffee in Space (video demo)
Boing Boing —
Robert Pearlman, editor of the space history and artifact website collectSPACE, says:
Here's a really neat video recorded tonight from NASA TV that shows Dr. Don Pettit demonstrating his zero-g coffee cup. Not only is it cool space food, but its a science lesson, too!

How to Drink Coffee In Space -- Without a Straw
The Raw Feed —
A NASA astronaut demonstrates how a flexible "cup" modeled on the shape of a rocket fuel tank enables you to drink liquids without a straw in zero gravity. Weird.

Astronaut Invents Amazing Space-Cup
Wired: Gadget Lab —
Astronaut Don Pettit has hacked together a MacGuyver-esque coffee cup which works in space. Normally, the lack of gravity means that zero-g sipping has to be done through a straw. Think about it -- when we tip up our cups here on Earth, the liquid inside stays put and the cup effectively moves out of the way allowing the drink to drop into our waiting mouths. That doesn't happen in weightlessness, hence the tubes.
This is fine for soda, but a grown up cup of espresso should be supped, not sucked. Pettit's design is remarkably simple. He took a plastic sheet and fashioned it into a cup shape. The key difference is the fold running up one edge, a ...
Video: Astronaut Designs Coffee Cup for Space
The UberReview —
NASA astronaut Don Pettit saw fit to ensure that the weightless environment of space no longer poses major problem for those that want to enjoy a nice cup of coffee. He designed a cup in the shape of an aircraft wing, that causes the liquid to climb predictably up the side of the cup when it is tilted to a certain angle. The effect is that the coffee rises up the side of the cup and pours itself slowly into your mouth, presumably a nice change to sucking it out of a bag. [Core77]

Astronaut Dr. Don Pettit demonstrates what is likely the most convenient method for enjoying a beverage in space - using a simple cup with airplane-wing-like shape which uses a liquid's surface tension to draw the beverage evenly towards the mouth - When Dr. Don Pettit lived aboard the International Space Station in 2002, he became known for his "Saturday Morning Science" sessions, during which he would demonstrate really cool, simple microgravity experiments.
Earlier this month, Pettit returned to space, this time as member of space shuttle Endeavour's crew on a mission to ...
