Hi MAKE! I built this for fun and to see just how simple and cheap I could do it. All of the parts came from the hardware store and a thrift store where I found the flatbed scanner and toys to hack for parts. The whole project costs about $20 to make. The electronics are simple. 2 relays and three microswitches and a drive motor. The schematic is here... This is a great project that has pieces of an old scanner at its heart. I love the fact that this project is very functional, keeps the dog amused and was built on a recycled parts budget. I think it just needs some kind of water sprayer in the front that squirts just before it launches to prevent the inevitable ball to the nose that dog will endure. Fetchbot takes care of your dog with a little help

This "FetchBot" was built from an old computer scanner and will keep your dog endlessly amused, ideally without the need for you to be there. Unfortunately, as this video shows, the dog wasn't really clear about how to reload the bot, thus causing its owner some grief.
