On the hackintosh front, Sony's Vaio P seemed a bust: its GMA 500 video chip had terrible drivers even in Windows, and no support at all under Mac OS X. Insanely Mac forum posters ryuu123 and maccosmo, however, claim to have cracked the problem, and offer instructions on how to get Leopard running on the minuscule 1.5lb netbook.

Well, looks like it is possible to run OS X on Sony's teeny Vaio P netbook, but it's no perfect Dell Mini 9 hackintosh. It looks like a difficult and imperfect crack, yet it still somehow runs better than Vista. "Blasphemy!", cries Apple fans as they lay their eyes upon this Sony Vaio P netbook that is running Mac OS X. While it will run faster than Vista on this clearly underpowered device, it won't be able to handle 3D applications and games due to the lack of its GMA500 video chipset drivers. The 3G modem is also out of commission as well, alongside Ethernet, Wi-Fi and GPS so don't bother bringing this out if you plan to get some surfing done while you're on the go.

They have posted instructions on getting Leopard running on the Vaio P, however it is a very complex procedure and you need to know all the tricks of the trade. Is it faster then VISTA? I don’t get the need to put OSX on stuff that it is not meant to run on, I mean, nine times out of ten you are left with sub-par functionality. This example is case and point, the 3G modem, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, GPS don’t work, and you won’t be getting much other than the bare minimum of video, as there are no GMA500 chipset drivers. It turns a slick little net machine into little more than a word processor, but it is running off a USB drive, which makes switching back to “fully-functioning” Vista slickness a simple enough task.

Add one more to the hackintosh netbook list. It’s the Vaio P that has managed to achieve this little feat albeit without any connectivity (except Bluetooth) or GMA 500 video drivers. If you’re intrigue to try this out – which has one advantage of running faster than Vista – ryuu123 and maccosmo have posted a tutorial on how to do it. However, it deals with manipulating kext which can brick the system if something wrong happens.

Sabemos que la Sony VAIO P con Windows Vista, que es el sistema operativo original que trae la ultraportátil, es algo completamente desastroso por su lentitud. Así que por ese motivo era algo más que obvio que veríamos esta netbook con Mac OS X en algún momento. Así que fanboys de Apple, vean cómo funciona y después evalúan si vale la pena comprarse la VAIO P para ponerle el sistema operativo de la manzana.
