Microsoft has unveiled its much rumoured motion controller at E3 along with 1080p video-streaming, facebook and twitter integration, and Premier League football as part of Microsoft's deal with Sky. "Project Natal" is not as many were expecting a hand-held controller but rather a motion sensing camera, like the Eye Toy, but hopefully substantially less crappy. Steven Spielberg lumbered on stage to demo the new technology, with his avatar moving in real time as he controled the UI. I just received a first hands-on with Project Natal in a very private room at E3 Los Angeles, courtesy of creative director Kudo Tsunoda, who talked me through his creation before letting me lose on his baby. And I have to say, it is mind-blowingly awesome.
After Kudo had shown me the ropes he let me literally jump into the gaming space, and Natal created an avatar of me in milliseconds. Kudo said: "We wanted to give users full control of their avatar in a one-to-one 3D space, with you as a gamer in a virtual world. There's no controller in the world that can do this."
