Video: Modbook modded in stop motion
Engadget —
Although Axiotron's Modbook and Modbook Pro look like they're relatively simple creations -- take off the original screen, install touch screen backwards -- we've always assumed the process was much more complicated. Turns out we were wrong -- if this Modservice video from TechRestore is to be believed, a ...
Stop Motion ModBook Video Shows Expensive Hack in Action
Wired: Gadget Lab —
Here's the way to get your ad shown free -- make it awesome. Here we see Tech Restore hawking its Modbook upgrade program, a $1150 service which adds a touch screen to your MacBook while simultaneously rendering it useless by removing the keyboard.
The twist is that the video shows the whole process in stop motion video. Initially, I was entranced. And then I started to see how similar this is to the rather easy keyboard replacement on a MacBook, or the hard drive swap-out in an iBook.

Process for tabletizing a MacBook animated in stop-motion
Boing Boing Gadgets —
Considering the 256-level, pressure sensitive touchscreen they installs into your last-gen MacBook costs a couple hundred bucks max, and the fact that tabletizing an Apple laptop means giving up the keyboard for good, Tech Restore's ModBook service seems pretty steep at $1150. But it's almost worth it for the pleasure of witnessing this stop-motion advertisement for the ModBook service, which animates the whole process in the delightful style of an early 80's Sesame Street clip, complete with the sound of children cheering at the end.

Yeah, it might be a gigantic advertisement for the service, but what else do you have going on? Work? Blow it off. Watch the video after the jump.

Video: Changing the MacBook into a Modbook
Core77 —
I've been dying for a Modbook, but in this economy I simply don't have the scratch, not to mention an extra MacBook lying around to submit for the conversion. Still, it's interesting to see how they make the things, and the following stop-motion demo is well-produced (and interestingly scored):
God, they make it look so easy!
