Petman Walking/Balancing Robot Is Like BigDog's "Human" Master [Robots]
Gizmodo —
I'm sure you are all well acquainted with the crazy quadrupled BigDog robot, but if it had a master to walk with, it would probably look something like the Petman. Actually, the similarity is not surprising considering that the walking robot was designed by Boston Dynamics—the same company behind BigDog. Petman has been in development for some time now, but this is the first chance we have had to view his human-like stride. The military plans on using it to test out protective clothing for soliders that need to be completely protective and not strain or open up under any sort of human ...

Boston Dynamics (my arch nemesis) is at it again, this time with PETMAN, a bipedal walking robot, who, despite its name, actually hates all living creatures.
Biped robot the balances dynamically using a human-like walking motion. It is a close relative to BigDog, sharing elements of the mechanical design and control.
PETMAN is an anthropomorphic robot for testing chemical protection clothing used by the US Army. Unlike previous suit testers, which had to be supported mechanically and had a limited repertoire of motion, PETMAN will balance itself and ...

PetMan robot is the bomb
Ubergizmo —
Remember the BigDog quadruped robot that doesn't seem to be fazed despite getting kicked from the side while being able to maintain its balance? The very same brains behind BigDog have come up with PetMan, where this bipedal version will be able to dynamically balance itself thanks to a creepy human-like walking motion. Check out his action on the treadmill - will Nike or Adidas step in as a footwear sponsor anytime soon?

Petman marche comme un homme
w3sh magazine —

Geeky Gadgets —
Boston Dynamics have just released footage of their new biped robot PETMAN. Which will balance itself and move freely; walking, crawling and doing a variety of other movments.
balances dynamically using a human-like walking motion; it is a close relative to BigDog, sharing elements of the mechanical desgin and control.
PETMAN was designed as an anthropomorphic robot for testing chemical protection clothing and suit-stressing calisthenics during exposure to chemical warfare agents for the US Army.
Natural, agile movement is essential for PETMAN to simulate how a ...
Boston Dynamics' Petman robot walks like a real man
Gizmo Watch —
Boston Dynamics, famous for its robotic pack mule BigDog has finally found its companion in the Petman, a two-legged robot that not only looks like a human but also simulates a real person’s moving motion. We’d read before that something as the Petman was in the making, and today here we are seeing the Petman real, after 13 months of designing phase and a 17 month building time. With the abilities to move exactly like us, heal first and then toe, at speeds of 3.2mph, the US army is currently using the bot to test chemical warfare clothing. Here, to provide a realistic test condition, Petman’s done well to self ...
PETMAN: Un robot bípedo para testear trajes químicos
Gizmologia —

PETMAN robot walks like a human
CrunchGear —
If that BigDog robot from Boston Dynamics didn’t amaze and/or horrify you, maybe its human-like big brother “PETMAN” will catch your attention.
I, for one, like that the torso section of PETMAN looks like a sweet boom box and I hope that someday Boston Dynamics sees fit to let the robot loose in the business district of a small town, just walking around and taking in the scenery while pumping out some old-school rap.
And I mean really old-school, like the kind they used to use for break dancing. All the townspeople would be like, “Hey, check out ...

PetMan – the world’s first sweating robot…yeew!
The Red Ferret Journal - gadgets, cool sites, freeware and tech trivia —
Petman2 The folk at Boston Dynamics they of BigDog fame are at it again, this time with a 2 legged robot prototype called PetMan . It s still spooky tech, only now it s a biped in action, strolling around like it s a Sunday morning in Manhattan [ scary video ]. For some strange reason the boffins have built the thing to test chemical clothing (hence the sweating stuff) rather than accomplish some worthy task, but we ll wait and see how the thing eventually turns out when it s released into the wild. Where s John Connor when you need him, eh? Petman1 PETMAN is an anthropomorphic robot for testing chemical ...
Mindless, unfeeling automaton can walk. Soon it will be able to run, and shortly thereafter it will be able to chase you

Longtime readers of this site know I'm a robo-phobe, and "Relentless headless dog robot spells doom for human race" was the title of an earlier entry I wrote on the Big Dog, a pack-mule robot with a creepily efficacious way of walking. Now creator Boston Dynamics is at it again, minus two legs, with this creepy headless humanoid:
Disturbingly named Petman, the thing even walks like a man, contacting with the heel and pushing off with the toe. And it balances like a man.
But it is not a man. It is an abomination.

PETMAN Humanoid Walking Robot
Medgadget —
At Boston Dynamics out of Waltham, MA, engineers are building a robot that can walk naturally and simulate the motion of a real human. The PETMAN project is intended to develop a platform on which to test chemical protection suits for the US Army. With an ambitious schedule to develop the robot, the team already built the legs and torso that can walk on their own. We can't help but see an amazing set of prosthetic legs, as shown in this video:
