Man Controls Roomba With Wii Balance Board, Atari-Era Surfin' USA Soundtrack [Wii Roomba]
Gizmodo —
Ron Tajima has some time on his hands. And a Roomba. And a Wii Balance Board. See where we're going with this? Anyway, he put them all together, combined it with a Surfin' USA track that sounds like it was ripped from the 1980's, and now he can control the previously autonomous Roomba with his feet. "This is my third Roomba hacking," Tajima says. "This surfin is safe, useful (it's cleaning), and easy for nerds. Wii balance board is great!" Indeed it is, Tajima-san, indeed it is. Maybe there's a reason for me to take the Balance Board out from underneath my TV and use it again. Now, this post is ...
Roomba controlled by Wii Balance Board
MAKE Magazine: hacks —
"Ron" Tajima's Wii Balance Board Roomba looks like a fun way to clean the carpet. The idea is that you surf on the Balance Board, leaning forward or back to steer the robot. The video is a little short on details, but he's using a laptop to read the bluetooth data from the Balance Board and then send control signals to the Roomba bluetooth adapter.
You might recognize Ron from some other Roomba hacks he's done. A while back, he showed how to control the Roomba with the Wiimote (similar to the balance board hack), but the real gem of his collection is Rommba PacMan: ...

While this hack isn’t exactly very functional, it is pretty fun to watch. The man posted a YouTube video of how to he did the hack, and then the Roomba/Wii Balance Board combination in action. Check it out for ...

Here's a hack gadgetheads will love. What happens when Roomba meets the Wii Balance Board? Say hello to the "Surfin ba"
Japanese Roomba enthusiast Ron Tajima attached a serial Bluetooth adapter to the Roomba. He then used the Wii Balance Board's Bluetooth capability to steer the Roomba around. The extent to which he leans on the Balance Board controls the radius of the Roomba's turn and its direction.
Check out the YouTube video with its kitschy music and sped up assembly footage making it all seem so easy! Even easier than just letting the Roomba do its own thing. ...
