Glass pool table is an expensive, bad idea
Boing Boing Gadgets —
There's numerous reasons why this G-1 transparent pool table (no relation) is a bad idea, the least of which is the game-changing elimination of a more frictive felt in favor for smooth, slippery glass . Still, if you're in the market for a novelty pool table that can break into a thousand pieces on a break, the G-1 is on sale for only $26,150.

A Glass Pool Table [Games]

Beautiful. But I bet every time I'd rack and break, I'd furrow my brow intensely wondering if they whole thing would come undone. Under the film surface, meant to emulate the felt top of a regular pool table, is safety glass. It's 3/4 of an inch thick, and the bumpers are standard, so I suppose it's safe enough to play on. But maybe I just want someone to sink that 8 ball so hard, the entire thing shatters. Saving that, some director should use one in a bar gunfight scene. [Nottage Design via BornRich]

If you’ve been cursing the standard felt and slate pool table concept ever since you started playing, perhaps it’s time to consider the G-1 Glass Top Pool Table from Australia’s Nottage Design. It’ll only set you back a little over $25,000.
That’s assuming there’s a US-based dealer around somewhere, as I can imagine shipping a big, heavy pool table from Australia might call for something a bit more series than Fedex Saver rates. Let’s cross that imaginary bridge when we come to it, though.
If you do happen to have the coin for this table, you’ll get some pretty tricked-out features; most notably, the magical (and patented) “Vitrik” playing ...
Clearly The G1 Glass Pool Table Is Over The Top (video)
GadgetReview —
To justify purchasing a pool table of this caliber, you’d have to be a ‘balls out’ snooker player. Ok, so it’s far from practical, but what pool table is. So how does it work? Instead of using felt, and to maintain it’s translucent qualities, designer Craig Nottage utilized super tough glass covered in Vitrik’s patented resin material that is said to give the same resistance as a standard felt topped pool table.
The G-1 table was built for a design class as part of a final project, but that doesn’t mean you can’t buy it. Drop $25,000 and the G1 ...
Glass Pool Table - The G-1
Gadget Venue —
The G-1 is a pool table that has a glass resin surface to play on. Looking at the pictures you will see it is absolutely fantastic in how it has been designed.
It was created by Nottage Design and uses a special material that coats the glass surface to make the pool balls move and spin at exactly the same speeds as traditional felt tables. The bumpers and pockets are each built to international standards which means you will be playing the exact same game with the same speeds etc… but on a table that looks far more classy.
Under the glass there are runners which guide the balls in to their resting place once pocketed. It is truly fascinating to ...

“Vitrik.” That’s the name of the patented coating that allows the Nottage G-1 pool table to be a pool table. Made of toughened glass, the table’s surface with the Vitrik coating on it mimics the rolling resistance of felt, meaning that although it looks like you’re just playing on glass, the balls behave as though they’re on a regular felt surface with slate underneath. The rest of the table looks slick but is built entirely to competition specs, with the possible exception of a rather creative ball return system.
The G-1 pool table is also available with a frosted top that can be lit from ...
Transparent Glass Pool Table by Nottage Design G-1
Interior Design, Decorating, Furniture, Architecture, Home & House Design Magazine —
A few years ago I’ve had a dream to own my own pool table, but that dream is not a top priority right now. Today I’ve found a pool table that is a little more different than most pool tables. Created by Australia-based Nottage Design, the G-1 offers a perfect blend of modern styling and latest technology. It enjoys a transparent playing area with a glass top and patented resin playing surface.
This pool table has a clear surface made with a Vitrik™ playing surface. Vitrik™ is a patented surface that is designed to mimic the characteristics of felt, giving it the same smooth feel of a regular pool table. The minimalist modern frame features ...
