This Instructable takes us into pure McGyver territory. With a motor, USB cable, two compact discs and a paper or plastic tube, Instructables user msolek creates a nice little USB powered fan. As far as build projects go, this is actually pretty simple and as the parts are all rather inexpensive, you can probably afford to make a few mistakes along the way.

Instructables has a cool DIY project on how to build your own USB powered fan called the USB Cooler.
The project requires few starting materials, just 2 CDs, USB cable and plastic tube or papier.
The process involves cutting the CD in a windmill design, stripping the USB cable to expose the underlying wires and then piecing everything together. This is a straightforward project requiring just the most basic of electrical wiring skills but the end product is a desktop fan that you can proudly display in your work area.
