Video: Hybrid HP Mini with pop-out tablet PC looks phenomenal
CrunchGear —
Yes, yes, yes. Check out this prototype from VIA. It’s a hybrid tablet PC netbook. The screen pops out of the main body and functions as an Android tablet and when docked back into the body — in this case, an HP MIni 1000-series netbook — it runs XP.
Per VIA (via VIA?):
Here’s a quick look at a prototype device that combines an ARM based tablet PC inside a HP Mini-note. The tablet PC runs Google’s lightweight Android OS while the main body of the Mini-note is using good old XP. This device is developed by Taiwan’s III. ...

Here’s a concept we’ve bandied around ourselves from time to time: a notebook device with a modular screen that becomes a handheld. The Institute for Information Industry, or III, is showing off just such a concept at Computex. The base system is an HP Mini 1000 netbook, but the touchscreen is actually a removable UMPC. VIA is powering the guts of the modified Mini with a 1.6GHz C7-M while the UMPC is an ARM system running Android.

Hybrid Android/XP Tablet/Laptop Looks Nice, Has Me Confused [Laptops]
Gizmodo —
At first this seems like a good idea: A tablet that runs Android in stand-alone mode. Then you connect it to an HP Mini 1000 netbook and it will run Windows XP. Then I wonder how the data—the address book, the music, calendar, etc.—will be kept synchronized between its Android and XP personalities. Did they manage to share data structures between the two operating systems? Maybe. Or maybe it's just a funky prototype that doesn't really work at all. [Crunchgear]

Via+ARM Netbook+Tablet Prototype Based On HP Mini Note
Ubergizmo —
Howtobemobile has an interesting video about a prototype based off the HP mini note, but with a twist: the main body has a Via CPU and runs like a normal laptop, but the detachable display is a tablet ARM-based Netbook that runs on Google Android. When you dock the tablet back into the Netbook, Windows XP pops back magically. The company is currently looking for partners.

Android/XP Frankenbook hybrid device
MAKE Magazine —
The Institute for Information Industry in Taiwan have cobbled together from existing parts a truly unique device. It's part netbook, part tablet. They started by gutting an HP Mini 1000 and replaced the Intel Atom chip with a Via processor running XP SP2. They then removed the standard display and replaced it with a tablet of the same size running Android. Pop the tablet out of its holder and you've got a fully functional Android tablet. Slide it back into the base with the keyboard and you're running XP.
