The UberReview — I have seen a lot of crazy experiments in my time, but this one has to take the cake. Theo Gray over at Pop Sci managed to make himself a glass ornament on a charcoal grill. By adding washing soda, lime or borax to silica beach sand, it is possible to reduce the temperature required to make glass from 3,000-3,500°F to a still toasty and very dangerous 2,000°F. He manages to attain this temperature using a vacuum cleaner and a Weber grill and produces a small glass ornament for his troubles.
