alt.CES: Electro-Harmonix Voice Box
MAKE Magazine —
I've often considered Electro-Harmonix the coolest mainstream manufacturer of effects pedals and this new product is further proof. The Voice Box is both a vocoder and harmonizer unit with mic and instrument inputs. Along with built in reverb, tone control, and phantom power this unit provides "gender" changing options. From the product page - The harmony processor creates 2- to 4-part harmonies directly from your vocals, in the same key as your accompanying instrument. Studio-quality reverb lets you independently add depth to your dry and harmony vocals.
The focused 256-band articulate vocoder, ...
alt.CES - Wrap-up
MAKE Magazine —
This year, for the annual gadget Bacchanal known as CES (the Consumer Electronics Show), we did something a little different -- we took a MAKEcation! From the sidelines, we covered a few things that weren't being covered, and some things through a uniquely MAKE lens. Here's our wrap-up. If you saw tech, at the actual show, or via online coverage, that you got particularly jazzed about, head to comments and share some of your enthusiasm.
alt.CES - DIY full auto book scanner
This is just what I was hoping someone had built! Totally awesome. Now it just needs to add OCR and text-to-speech to convert to MP3s ...
Voice Box - electronic harmonizer
Boing Boing —
Scott says: It's a demo of my dad's new Voice Box (harmonizer/vocoder) as performed by a pair of really talented folks I found via YouTube (I found Jack and Nataly when researching user-generated videos for the new EHX site).
The Voice Box's harmonizer is vaguely like Songsmith, in that you feed it a mic and an instrument, and it can then create multipart vocal harmony -- the vocoder is totally different, it give more of that robotic man-machine sound.

Voice Box calcitrates buttocks , writes down your identifying information
CrunchGear —
The music is a little bit precious but this Electro-Harmonix Voice Box thing is amazing as a music tool. The box follows along to background music and works in harmony or vocoder mode.
One thing that you’ll notice is that in a few iterations of the market instinct, you’ll probably hear more and more bands using these tools. Even in my limited musical experience, I’ve noticed “tricks” that have shown up in hardware or software form ending up in popular music a few weeks after they are launched commercially. It’s like an arms race in which everyone is really emo about ...
Electro-Harmonix Voice Box Auto-Harmonizer Is the Beach Boys to Your Brian Wilson [Music]
Gizmodo —
Electro-Harmonix, producers of the BIG MUFF, make some of the best music effects boxes around. And the new Voice Box is amazing: it will automatically harmonize with whatever you throw at it. See for yourself. Aside from Frampton-esque vocoding, the Voice Box listens for a key from any electric instrument input and then adds a symphony of harmonic backers of a gender of your choosing, all automatic-like. I know how this will all go down. Just like Auto Tune, it will first be used by Cher, then be adopted by a thousand dancehall producers in Kingston, shortly followed by a dread-locked American hooksman, and ...
Interview: Jack Conte, Internet musician
CrunchGear —
Jack Conte is an Internet musician who makes his living from selling MP3s online and generally running around like a madman making great music. I was introduced to him through Electro-Harmonix but I was amazed when I found the rest of his great music online. I met with him at a cafe in San Francisco where we drank huge bowls of coffee and talked music, technology, and hardware. He makes videosongs of himself recording his songs and sells his music online. Oddly enough, he also Tweets.
CG: So from a hardware perspective, and I know you use a lot of gear, it’s interesting how far things have come from your ...
