Verizon/Droid ad aimed at iPhone appears
9 to 5 Mac - Apple Intelligence —
As promised, Verizon unveiled an ad in tonight's Yankees-Angels game aimed pretty squarely at the iPhone. It is interesting to remember that the Motorola ROKR had Apple iTunes software on it and Apple was negotiating to put the iPhone on Verizon a mere three years ago.
They also have a website - DroidDoes.com.

Droid Attacks iPhone
Technologizer —
Verizon Wireless, which recently announced it was hopping on the Android smartphone OS bandwagon big time, has started whetting our appetite for its first Android phone. It’s launched a TV ad for the phone, the Droid, and a teaser site. And so far, it’s mostly promoting the phone by bashing the iPhone, with ...
Verizon ad pits Android against iPhone
Electronista | The Macintosh News Network —
As promised, Verizon tonight launched a commercial and a matching ad campaign, DroidDoes , that together attack the iPhone. The reveal (video available below) centers on the upcoming Motorola Droid and sets it up as the direct rival to Apple's hardware, offering exactly what its competitor is lacking: as an Android device, the Droid will have customized home screens, multitasking, open development and widgets. It also gets a hardware keyboard and a replaceable battery. The posting also confirms more specific traits of the Droid itself, including its 5-megapixel camera, an 800x480 display, and that it will use Android 2.0 . ...
Groking the Geekiest Campaign Ever
Mobility Site —
In my time I have seen a lot of campaigns aimed at tech enthusiasts or, and I use the term lovingly, your average geek. Mainly they can be found on the back pages of gaming magazines, or slipped into the commercials for TV shows geeks may like but not enough to TiVo. However, the weirdest thing is that not that the new DroidDoes anti-iPhone campaign from Verizon is the most geek friendly marketing push I have ever seen from a mainstream company, but that they are aiming it directly at non-geeks…I mean they aired the initial ad in a baseball game, for god sake.
Not in a commercial during Chuck, or FlashForward…but a BASEBALLGAME? A ...
Verizon Levels Guns At Apple, Not AT&T, With Droid Phone Blitz [Android]
Gizmodo —
This 30-second Droid spot started airing last night during the ALCS. Dan may not like it, but even so there's no denying that Verizon, in the words of Matt Buchanan, went totally balls in with an Android phone. An Android 2.0 Motorola phone, to be precise, which we'll officially get to see sometime in November. Until then, we can feast on rumors and speculation, revel in the broadside Verizon fired against Apple (not AT&T;, it should be noted), and of course dissect the actual marketing itself, as was done at Daring Fireball: 1. The whole site is Flash. 2. The ...
Verizon Bashes iPhone With Lame Android Ad
iPhone Savior —
Verizon has come out swinging wildly at iPhone in their first lame ad pimping the arrival of the Android 2.0 Motorola phone. The ad spends :20 seconds focusing on what looks like a poorly executed Powerpoint presentation that hacks on the limitations of iPhone by vomiting up iDon't sentences at warp speed. The ad is cut to music sounding like a Target commercial reject.
Then as if hitting a brick wall, the text smacks head on into a collage of retarded 1990's video editing techniques and twisted sound effects revealing the statement DroidDoes, along with ...
Verizon to unveil Motorola Droid on October 30
Android and Me —
On October 6, Verizon announced a strategic partnership with Google to sell Android phones, but they failed to announce any products. It was widely believed that Motorola would provide the first Android phone for Verizon (who’s CEO Lowell McAdam was pictured with the secret device). After an endless stream of leaks for the Motorola phone, Verizon has launched a teaser campaign for the first Android 2.0 device.
Droiddoes.com is the new promo site for the Motorola Droid (Sholes). Verizon continues their direct attack on Apple and mocks the iPhone as the iDont. ...

Verizon sets it sights on Apple, AT&T in ad campaign
AppleInsider —
By Brian Garner Published: 05:15 PM EST Verizon has upped the ante in its battle verses Apple and AT , airing a series of ads which highlight AT 's lack of 3G coverage, iPhone shortcomings. In a thirty second advertisement which first aired Saturday during the ALCS baseball game, Verizon unveiled a new add targeting the iPhone. The ad, which greatly resembles Apple's stylized spots, listed several of the iPhone's proposed weaknesses when compared to Verizon's new Droid smartphone with the tagline "iDon't." No real details about the Droid phone were presented in the spot, instead viewers were directed to a website where email addresses ...

Verizon Attacks iPhone With “Droid”
TheAppleBlog —
Over the weekend, Verizon launched its second attack against the iPhone, a condescending teaser for an upcoming Android-based phone, Droid. However, unlike the first ad, which rightfully attacked AT&T’s anemic network coverage and dependability, the Droid ad goes after the iPhone.
According to Verizon, the iPhone ...

Verizon Takes Aim At iPhone - Hints at October 30 for Android 'Droid' launch
DSLreports - front page —
A few weeks ago Verizon began taking aim at AT&T; and Apple by running a suite of ads that mocked AT&T;'s loose 3G coverage. The company also announced they'd soon be offering new android-based phones. As part of their promotion for the new phones, Verizon's launched a new countdown clock that marks October 30 as a date to watch, though they don't say whether that's a launch date or a date for further announcements. They've also cooked up this spot that takes competitive jabs at what the iPhone doesn't do. The Boy Genius Report has an early hands on look at the new "Droid," so you can make up your ...

If Verizon (VZ) is in talks with Apple (AAPL) to become the second U.S. carrier for the iPhone, they evidently weren’t going very well. How else to explain this iPhone slagging ad campaign for the company’s forthcoming Android handset, Droid.

Do Verizon's anti-iPhone/anti-AT&T ads mean it doesn't expect to ever carry the iPhone?
TECHNOLOGY —
Ex-Tech Blogger Andrew Smith forwards a link to a New York Times blog post speculating that the recent slew of tough Verizon ads targeting Apple's iPhone and AT&T;'s network coverage with the iPhone is a sign that Verizon's negotiations with Apple to carry future versions of the iPhone have broken down.
Andrew thinks the ads could also affect Apple's infamous tablet project, as the rumor has been that the machine (whenever it comes out) will have 3G connectivity and be offered on Verizon's network. But with Verizon dancing so gleefully on Apple's baby, what are the ...

Verizon Attacks the iPhone, Hints at Upcoming Droid
Wired: Gadget Lab —
In one of the boldest attacks on Apple’s iPhone so far, Verizon unveiled a TV commercial and website over the weekend that touted Droid, a new smartphone from Motorola, as a device that does everything the iPhone doesn’t.
Verizon’s “iDon’t” TV commercial and website (warning: Flash-centric site) displays a series of statements aimed directly at the iPhone, such as ‘iDon’t have a real keyboard, iDon’t customize, iDon’t allow open development,” but without naming the iPhone directly. (You can watch the Droid ad on YouTube, or scroll down to see the video ...
Can Droid Take iPhone Market Share?
Alice Hill's Real Tech News - Independent Tech —
droidcommercial.jpg By Michael Santo Editor-in-Chief, RealTechNews Verizon is pulling put all stops with its new Android commercial, which highights what the iPhone doesn’t do, in an ad that tells you exactly what the iPhone doesn’t do, like “iDon’t allow open development, i’Dont run simultaneous apps.” And at the end of the ad: “Everything iDon’t, Droid Does.” Besides the fact that Verizon is bashing the iPhone big-time, it seems like this would put to rest, at least for now, any rumors that Verizon will be picking up the iPhone anytime soon. Why bash something you are considering selling? As I said previously, I don’t think Verizon will pick ...
Verizon takes after Palm without pioneering an OS
Gadget Teaser —
On Saturday night, Verizon publicly declared it would be going after the iPhone with a new Android phone from Motorola. To do so, Big Red is using the same tactic Palm did, but it will probably see a much higher success rate. The reason: the OS.
It’s not just that I think Android is a superior platform (which I do), or that Palm continues to botch almost everything it tries with regard to the App Catalog (which it does). It’s really that Verizon isn’t trying to pioneer a new OS against the world’s most successful smartphone. Android is not the thriving development community it could be, but it’s not ...

Verizon To Get New Motorola Droid, Takes On Apple’s iPhone in Leaked Commercial

[image] Verizon is making some big ripples this month, and they are some interesting ones indeed. Verizon is believed to be receiving the new Motorola Droid, a small cube of Android goodness, sporting a full fledged QWERTY keyboard. BoyGeniusReport recently received a prototype of the Droid and it seems as if Motorola is packing some serious heat to blast themselves back into the game. The Droid vs. iPhone battle is beginning to heat up
The Motorola Droid advertising campaign is in full swing, and I’m sure by now you’ve seen the commercials, if not you can see the commercial below. Basically, the campaign is all about taking digs at the iPhone while showing Motorola’s support for the Android OS.
If you’re un-familiar with the Droid, it’s the first Android-based smartphone that will be sold exclusively by Verizon Wireless. Why is this fact important? Verizon currently has more than 86 million wireless subscribers, and will be the ...

What do you get when you cross two guys in lab coats, lame jokes and the Windows Mobile app store? Either way, watching this half a dozen times or so might make you completely forget all the problems in the world and give you a few moments of reflection on how awesome ads like these are. ...
