AT&T Sues Verizon Over 3G Ads - Apparently Verizon hit a sore spot....
DSLreports - front page —
A few weeks ago Verizon started throwing punches at AT&T; in the form of a series of new ads that took direct aim at AT&T;'s recent network issues and poor 3G coverage (see this ad, for example). AT&T; apparently isn't amused, and dropped us a line to note that they're suing Verizon for the ads. According to the suit, Verizon's using "misleading" coverage maps which could result in AT&T; suffering a loss in "incalculable market share." "The Verizon ads mislead customers into believing that AT&T; does not offer any wireless service in the vast majority of the country, which is of course not true," ...
AT&T sues Verizon over "There's a Map for That" campaign
9 to 5 Mac - Apple Intelligence —
AT&T is suing Verizon because it believes the "There's a Map for That" advertising is misleading. AT&T contend that the maps shown confuse the customer into believing there is no coverage at all in the white spots on AT&T's map when in fact there is either EDGE or GPRS service in a lot of those areas.
Maybe those attorney fees would be better spent on adding towers/capacity and working on that map, AT&T?

AT&T Suing Verizon Because "Map" Ad Is Confusing to Dumb People (and Lawyers) [Cellphones]
Gizmodo —
A Verizon Wireless ad shows a beefy Verizon 3G map next to a less impressive AT&T; 3G map. AT&T; is suing, saying it leads people to believe AT&T; has no phone service outside of its (admittedly skimpier) 3G areas. Now, the ad focuses on 3G alone, and the discussion is about 3G services, including video. But the charge AT&T; makes is that people who watch the ad are being deliberately led to thinking that in the white spaces, there's no AT&T; phone service at all. Here's the accusation: Consumers are interpreting the white or blank space on the maps to mean that AT&T; customers who are not in an ...
AT&T Files Complaint Against Verizon’s Ads, Which Continue To Play On TV
ZiggyTek Blog —
[image] AT&T has been offended and its fighting back with filed complaint…against Verizon. Why am I not surprised? It was only a matter of time before AT&T saw the “There’s a map for that” ad and figured out that Verizon was ridiculing their iPhone inspired tag line. Earlier this evening, Engadget reported that the complaint asks for an injunction that prevents Verizon from presenting the blank areas in AT&T’s “map” as areas with no coverage (which is somewhat true). AT&T’s reason for filing this complaint was because of it mislead customers to believe that areas outside of AT&T’s 3G did not have any coverage which is in fact not true. Any areas that not covered by AT&T’s ...
AT&T Sues Verizon Over Theres A Map For That Commercial (video)
GadgetReview —
I totally saw this one coming. AT&T has sued Verizon over their some what hilarious ‘there’s a map for that’ commercial – it parodies Apple’s ‘there’s an app for that’ ads. Video below.
The commercial displays two US maps comparing Verizon’s robust 3G coverage versus AT&Ts spotty 3G coverage. AT&T says it’s misleading because the map Verizon used doesn’t show AT&Ts 2G coverage and could lead consumers into thinking that they don’t provide service in the majority of the US. Additionally, the maps aren’t a comparable representation since Verizon’s map ...
Leaked AT&T Memo: If Anyone Asks About The Verizon Lawsuit, Just Tell Them We’re Awesome
CrunchGear —
Needless to say, AT&T's none too happy about Verizon's "Theres a Map for That" campaign. AT&T first complained about the ads back in October, saying they were misleading. Verizon responded by adding a few extra words and an itsy bitsy disclaimer - but that wasn't enough for AT&T. Early this morning, AT&T filed a false advertising suit against Big Red, presumably in an effort to get the ads off the air as soon as possible.
This afternoon, AT&T sent out an internal memo regarding the lawsuit, and we've obtained a copy.
AT&T Prepares Lawsuit Against Verizon
Ubergizmo —
We certainly can’t blame AT&T for getting mad at Verizon’s “There’s a Map for That”, regardless of whether the video is accurate or not. It’s no surprise that AT&T has filed a false advertising suit against Verizon in retaliation, but they’ve also issued an internal memo to tell employees how to respond to this (basically tell the customers that AT&T is good). Judging from the number of AT&T customers who are cheering this ad on, might there be a sliver of truth in this ad? Check it out for yourself.

... and the usefulness of its service to smartphone users has suffered accordingly."
Those harsh words are the rebuttal by Verizon to AT&T's lawsuit that was seeking to stop those now infamous "Map for that" ads (below). As Engadget says, those words were made for the public forum not just some 50 page rebuttal (PDF). Incredibly, Verizon says in the introduction:
AT&T did not file this lawsuit because Verizon's "There's A Map For That" advertisements are untrue; AT&T sued because Verizon's ads are true and the truth hurts.
Ziiiing!
Verizon also called AT&T CEO Randall ...
AT&T vs Verizon: Who Will Be The First To Give In To The Wireless War?
ZiggyTek Blog —
[image] If you haven’t ignored your television commercials, you’ve most likely come across Verizon ads that point out Apple’s lack of 3G coverage in parts of the US. Verizon even went as far as releasing an ad making fun of AT&T’s coverage crippling the iPhone (check it out after the break). Well AT&T didn’t sit back and take it. AT&T filed a lawsuit against Verizon for the “ there’s a map for that ” and then started new ads starring Luke Wilson, that are supposed to convince America that AT&T doesn’t have the shoddy coverage that Verizon claims. So, will it stop soon or will it continue till one of them gets fed up? With AT&T coming out with new ads, this may go ...
AT&T, Verizon Drop 3G Ad Dispute - Can't we all just get along and make billions?
DSLreports - front page —
A few weeks ago you'll recall that AT&T; sued Verizon Wireless for a new series of advertisements poking fun at AT&T;'s 3G network performance and coverage. Specifically, AT&T; told us they believed the ads "mislead customers into believing that AT&T; does not offer any wireless service in the vast majority of the country," despite the fact that the ads simply compared 3G coverage only (see example ad). What followed was several weeks of media coverage, which actually made things worse for AT&T; -- by highlighting the very lack of 3G coverage and poor network performance AT&T;'s been trying to downplay for months. After all of that ...
